Captain Tsubasa 2: World Fighters picks up the story a few years after Rise of New Champions, following Tsubasa Ozora and Japan's junior national team as they push through a qualifying gauntlet toward the World Youth Championship. The roster has grown considerably, with 22 national teams and over 110 playable characters drawn from across the manga's expanded universe, and the newly created NEW STARS ROUTE lets players build a custom player and join the squad directly. Story content overseen by original creator Yoichi Takahashi adds fresh side arcs that flesh out rival nations beyond the main campaign.
On the pitch, the signature over-the-top "Super Action Soccer" style returns with an expanded move set that now touches passing, tackling, and blocking rather than just shooting. A reworked goalkeeper-versus-shooter system turns key save attempts into their own dramatic showdowns, echoing the anime's iconic freeze-frame moments. More than 150 cutscenes and a large new score from returning composer Tadayoshi Makino keep the presentation as theatrical as the gameplay.
