Widely regarded as one of the finest platformers on the Super Nintendo, this sequel sees Diddy Kong team up with Dixie Kong to rescue a kidnapped Donkey Kong from the villainous Kaptain K. Rool. The action moves to K. Rool's pirate-themed Crocodile Isle, trading the jungle setting of the original for ships, swamps and haunted woods, all rendered with Rare's trademark pre-rendered 3D character models.
Dixie's helicopter-spin hover and the pair's ability to team-throw each other add new movement options on top of the tight platforming the series is known for, while a large roster of animal buddies and hidden bonus rooms keep exploration rewarding throughout. Its atmospheric David Wise soundtrack is still cited among the best of the 16-bit era.
