Ported from the Rare/Midway arcade hit, Killer Instinct brought fast, combo-driven fighting to the Super Nintendo in 1995. A roster of characters including Jago, Sabrewulf, Glacius and Fulgore square off with elaborate combo strings, and the game's signature "Combo Breaker" system lets a cornered fighter interrupt an opponent's chain and turn a match around.
Despite the console lacking the arcade board's horsepower, the SNES version impressed players with surprisingly close visuals and the same aggressive, hype-building presentation, complete with announcer callouts for every big combo. It remains a favorite among 16-bit fighting game fans and a standout entry in Rare's SNES catalog.
