Cuphead and his brother Mugman make a reckless bet with the Devil and lose, leaving them indebted for their souls. To buy back their freedom, the pair set out across the strange, whimsical worlds of the Inkwell Isles to collect payment from the Devil's runaway debtors.
Cuphead is a run-and-gun action game built almost entirely around boss battles, tasking players with learning enemy attack patterns, dodging and parrying, and unlocking new weapons and super moves as they progress. The entire game is hand-drawn using traditional cel animation and watercolor backgrounds, paired with an original 1930s-style jazz score, faithfully recreating the look and feel of early rubber-hose cartoons. The full campaign can be played solo or in local two-player co-op.
Cuphead was developed and self-published by Studio MDHR, originally releasing in 2017 before arriving on PS4 in 2021.
