An ADAMAS agent witnesses a catastrophic event known as the Shinjuku Inferno and is thrown eight years into the past, tasked with uncovering its cause before it can destroy both the human world and the Digital World. The story unfolds across present-day Tokyo and the Digital World of Iliad, weaving together a civil war among Digimon factions and the mystery surrounding a guardian Digimon whose true identity ties directly into the coming catastrophe.
Players scan defeated enemy Digimon in battle to add them to their team, with a higher scan completion rate yielding stronger recruits. Team building is shaped by an Attribute-based rock-paper-scissors system, equippable Attachment Skills, gear, and a non-linear Digivolution system tied to each Digimon's stats and personality, while the Digifarm facility lets partners train passively outside of battle. In combat, the player character can also unleash Cross Arts, special interventions charged by landing advantageous attacks.
Digimon Story: Time Stranger is the seventh entry in the Digimon Story series, developed by Media.Vision and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. This Nintendo Switch 2 release offers a choice between a 4K 30fps mode and a 1080p 60fps performance mode.
